Matthew R. Stowe is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice of Technical Theatre and Production at Utah State University in the Department of Theatre Arts in the Caine College of Arts. There he teaches students the finer points of scenic engineering, construction, and art. He is also the Technical Director for the Lyric Reparatory Company based in Logan, Utah where he has been a part of 11 repertory seasons. Matthew also teaches online courses for Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey, which include courses such as Theater Appreciation and Theater History. This will be Matthew’s 10th year in Cache Valley working at the University where he has made many contacts including Music Theatre West, where he has enjoyed working as the Technical Production Manager for the last 6 years, and continues to help out where ever he can. He has also taught Scenic Production courses at Broadview Entertainment Arts University in Salt Lake City where they exclusively teach media production art. Matthew started his education at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah receiving his AA with an emphasis in Theatre and then moved on to receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Utah State University in Scene Design. He then continued his education at Boston University where he earned his Masters of Fine Arts in Scenic Engineering and Technical Production, and was awarded the Student Employee of the Year Award in the 2005-2006 school year. While there he worked for the Huntington Theatre Company in their scene shop as a carpenter and welder and was also able to train as an Assistant to the ATD working on shop drawings and inventory budgeting. In the short time that he has been in Cache Valley he has worked on over 100 productions for three different companies, all of which have been successful. Matthew enjoys his work and has managed to stay married for 12 years in spite of the rigorous demands of theatre life. He has two boys ages 11 and 3, and little girl age 5. Matthew enjoys spending time with his family however it may be spent as long as it is not in the theater. Matthew loves to create learning environments for students and hopes to continue to do so for many years to come.
